What power
and confidence, huh? Wes Wilson is unstoppable now, churning out
one masterpiece after another.
This poster
was printed with what is called the "blended fountain"
technique: A litho press has a bank of several long rollers (one
or more of them an oscillating one) that smooth out the ink flow
from the pickup roller, which pulls ink out of the long, wedge-shaped
ink tray which is filled with the gooey gunk by slapping it in
with a trowel. The ink settles in the v-shaped tray, and there
is an adjustable blade at the bottom which controls the opening
of a long slit that the ink passes through to the pickup roller.
In this case,
one side of the ink tray was filled with cerulean blue, the middle
was filled with orange, and the other side was filled with magenta.
As the inks
blend on the rollers, the color blend smooths out and you get
this effect....which makes every one of these posters unique,
because the ink is gradually, but constantly blending, yielding
a different result over the course of a print run.
Staple holes
in the corners, but perfect condition.
