A great early
poster by Wes Wilson, and a very clever play on words for the
title.
This is a very
rare poster.
Dig this:
'Want to know
how the hooded death's head for the Grateful Dead came about?
The Dead recorded a song called "St. Stephen" on their
first album, which had a line, "St. Stephen with a rose,
in and out of the garden he goes...." That image was taken
by Rick Griffin (but it could have been Stanley Mouse) and coupled
with the image of the REAL St. Stephen, whose skeleton is preserved
with a "grim reaper" hooded cloak over it, sitting in
a chair in the "bone room" of Santa Katerina monestery
at the foot of Mt. Sinai (these Christians are WEIRD!!! a lot
weirder than the Grateful Dead ever were, certainly). The Bone
Room contains a broad stack of skulls 6 feet deep of EVERY monk
who was ever there (better not visit).
Staple holes,
otherwise perfect.
